Trump May Offer Plan with Paid Maternity Leave

February 23, 2017

Trump’s administration has indicated that it may offer a plan that includes six weeks of paid maternity leave for employees.  Currently, in Florida, there is no law that requires employers to offer paid leave to employees.  Rather, the Family Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”) provides 12 weeks of unpaid leave for employees who have worked for at least 1 year and 1250 hours for an employer employing 50 or more employees in a 75 mile radius.  Of course, employers are free to offer paid leave as a benefit, but many employers do not offer that benefit.  If you have questions regarding maternity leave or your employment, please contact Tampa Employment Lawyer Darren D.
