Pregnancy Discrimination Happens
August 1, 2016The exciting, life altering news of a pregnancy should be a time to rejoice. However, many employees fear breaking pregnancy news to their employers. That is because too often pregnancy discrimination occurs in the workplace. All of a sudden an employee is who was in line for a big promotion is receiving negative performance evaluations or is not allowed to take paid time off like other employees. Even worse, the employee is now subject to a one person downsizing. An employer must treat pregnant employees as it would non-pregnant employees. Additionally, pregnant employees may be entitled to reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
